Photo Shoot in the Field
Last spring we decided to schedule an official Planina photo shoot—our first in several years. We rang up photographer Eric Weber, who has shot our group photos for many years, and started scouting possible locations.
Valerie identified a field at Crown Hill Open Space Park, where she walks regularly, near Wheat Ridge. We chose June 21—as close as possible to the summer solstice, so we could take advantage of the evening light.
When we all arrived at the appointed time, driving or carpooling in from directions all over Denver, Boulder and Longmont, the field was at its peak of spring-green beauty, with abundant, tall grass. And an unexpected bonus: a grey sky provided a perfect counterpoint to our colorful costumes.
Eric’s expertise and group members’ inspiration led to various creative shots. Then that lovely grey sky gave way to rain, so we grabbed our instruments and went running for our cars.
