Planina Celebrates the Holidays and Looks Forward to the Contemplation Concert
Holiday Greetings from Planina!
We’ve had a fun and busy year—we kicked it off on February 2nd with a concert of exhilarating Bulgarian music celebrating our July 2018 trip to Bulgaria, where we learned new songs in the Muslim villages of Breznitsa and Draginovo, and sang on stage at the Dorkovo International Festival for Authentik Folklore. Thank you, Planina fans and supporters—you made that trip possible!
Among our numerous concerts during 2019, we were honored to perform at the CU Russian Spring Festival, Kavod Senior Life, the Boulder International Festival, the Russian/Eastern European/Central Asian Heritage Camp at Snow Mountain Ranch, Bohemian Nights at New West Fest in Fort Collins, the Boulder Balkan Bash and the Denver Christkindl Market.
Now we are reveling in the holiday season, and we offer this song to you, from Ukraine and South Russia, “A v Jerusalime,” which we recorded on our CD, “Many Voices.” Click here to listen… Carolers sing this song as they go from house to house on the morning of Christmas Day and other holidays, collecting treats such as cookies, pies, foodstuffs, and coins. The translation:
“And in Jerusalem, bells toll early!
Refrain: Rejoice, rejoice, people of our land. Gleeful Son of God, our Lord is born!
“I’ll come to your house, as a guest on three holidays:
And the first is Christmas
And the second is St. Basil’s Day
And the third is Holy Epiphany.
We wish you health!
And for our carol, we ask for chocolates!”
A New Year Offering to Our Audiences – The Contemplation Concert
With the beginnings of a brand new year, you may want an environment in which to catch your breath after the holidays, spending some time in quiet relaxation and appreciation. Come to Planina’s first-ever contemplation concert. Listen in the quiet of a January afternoon to the soothing, sometimes mournful, sometimes joyous, harmonies of Russia and the Balkans. No bright costumes, no announcements, no applause—just a smooth flow of some of our more reflective tunes. We are excited to present this concert in the Chapel at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 2425 Colorado Avenue in Boulder on Saturday, January 18th at 3pm. More information and tickets here.
Please join us on January 18th for an afternoon of the extraordinary harmonies of Eastern Europe.
